Absolutely not!
I do not recommend the cry it out method. However, I cannot guarantee there will not be some crying. Crying is how babies communicate with us, & how children let us know what they want, need or don't like something!
I absolutely recommend a responsive approach to sleep training your child, this is very important. You will not be leaving your baby to cry, and if they do cry, you will be responding to their needs. The plan for sleep training will be determined by an in depth assessment of you and your child and their personality type.
You will be teaching your child a new skill, they will not want to change and will likely show some resistance, but you will be responding to them in the way that is right and effective for them
This is a very common and valid question.
We know from research and studies that babies and young children need to be consistently responded to quickly for optimum brain development.
There is no research that shows any adverse affects on children of gentle and responsive sleep training.
You may be concerned about Cortisol levels when a baby cries, (this is the stress hormone). Cortisol levels naturally vary and this hormone is vital, and not harmful in the right situations. It is the hormone that helps you get out of bed every day!
We know that experiencing long-term persistent high stress such as being left to cry for lengths of time or experiencing frightening situations will lead to persistent raised cortisol levels. It is the eprsistent raised levels that are harmful.
Sleep training is a gentle short term process that will not expose your child to anywhere near this level of stress.
The length of time sleep training takes will depend on various factors, from the age and stage of development of your child, personality type, and factors such as illness or teething.
A typical plan lasts 2 weeks, but younger babies often take longer to adjust to sleep training and may need a slower & more gentle approach, whereas older children tend to adjust and respond to the changes more quickly, depending on their personality type.
If your child needs to take the process at a slower pace, longer support packages are available. If you have not reached your sleep goals in the planned time, you will have a full plamthe knowledge to achieve them. Top up calls/packages are also available if required.
After an in-depth assessment I will devise a bespoke sleep plan for you and your child. We will review this together regularly by phone, whatsapp or email, and make any changes needed to ensure you get the results you want .
I will support you throughout the process and guide you by the hand every step of the way.
I cannot guarantee results when working with children. However all of my clients have achieved their sleep goals when they have consistently followed the plan and have implemented the strategies I have suggested.
Sadly this does happen, but it does not mean that the plan is not achievable.
If your child becomes ill, we can pause the plan so you can respond to your child's needs. Once they are better, we will start the plan again. This will not affect your sleep package.
